2019 ECM RECORDS PLAYLIST

Anyone that knows me know about my adoration/fascination/obsessession for all things ECM. Seriously, this German jazzical record label has done more for the genre – in Europe, at least – than almost any other. Some of the best music coming out of Europe is getting onto this label.

Obviously some serious standouts: Americans Joe Lovano and Keith Jarrett on here, as well as some ECM alums: Maciej Obara, Kit Downes, Avishei Cohen, Yonathan Avishai, and one of my favorite pianists, Julia Hülsmann. Really diggin this list.

David Torn’s Son Of Goldfinger is an ear bender, friends. Not for everyone. Keep in mind – some highly experimental stuff going on up here with people that have mastered their instruments. Torn is consistently great – this is one of his best efforts. Sound design, music, experimental wall of sound voodoo goodness. You’ll probably call me crazy.

So, I took the trouble – so you wouldn’t have to, of course, to put this entire list together on spotify. My reco: shuffle this bad boy. Find some new favs.

When someone asks: “Hey, John – what’s your fascination with all this Euro-jazz stuff?” I’m going to send them here. You can be amongst the first, without even asking! It’s so simple. Good thing you are on point with me.
