Sacramento Gentrification

I read an article right before I penned the concept of this song about Sacramento’s gentrification problem occurring near the downtown area, and it was instrumental to how we approached the topic. I sent the idea to Poor Majesty, and he loved it immediately. He rewrote my hook and made it his own, and I’m very happy with the way it turned out.

We filmed this video in a day near Sacramento’s broadway area, and also out in West Sacramento at Sunset. I had a broken toe; A large piece of formica had slipped off of a table and sheared the top of my toe, completely splitting the nail and ruining a fairly decent pair of Vans.

…and it was HOT that day, as it often is in Sacramento. I think that helped our mood – especially Poor’s look of agitation and frustration while shooting the video. Also, we shot it in a fairly violent part of town, and only had about a take or two before we felt we were overstaying our welcome.

Sené Goss sang the hook on this track, and since she’s already an actress I wanted to feature her with some music video storytelling. My friend N.O.M.E. Nomadd also makes an appearance.
