All’s Swell That Ground Swell.

OK. We don’t say that. In fact that’s probably the first time I came up with it. My family in the gallery will probably laugh when they see it. That’s actually how Groundswell is – art, yes. But lots of laughs, too.

Groundswell started when I developed a photography collaboration with a local Sacramento artist named Micah Crandall-Bear. I had YUGE 5-foot canvases printed with my photos, and invited Micah to paint the bottom of them. To my surprise, he agreed, and we became close friends.

At the show, he said joking: “We should open a gallery with this type of stuff.” He denies he said it, but 3 years later, we did. Groundswell Gallery is currently in downtown Sacramento, and (to me) is one of the hippest galleries in town, even during locked-down COVID.
