Westworld - Spitfire Audio and HBO Scoring Competition
Client: Sound Ranch Studios

How I Spent My COVID Summer Vacation
Spitfire Audio and HBO put together a scoring competition that offered composers a chance to compose to a scene in the popular television program Westworld. Since it is one of my favorite television shows since its inception several years ago, I leapt at the chance.
The sequence was presented with and without any music, and was about 4 minutes in length. Composers were able to use any type of soundtrack they wanted, as long as they didn’t use pre-recorded versions of the original. I may have violated that by using the metal clanking sound at the end, but I was more interested in having a genuine soundtrack than actually winning the competition, which garnered over 5,000 applicants.
It was a terrific exercise in a complex scene with several parts. I chose to utilize thematics from the original series in the overture of the piece.
