2019 Top Music Updated

https://12va.com/top-records-2019/

Okay, so 2020 is not our year, but at least we have some good things of which to listen. I’ve put together my top picks for 2019’s best, or most influential, of most listened to music into the master list.

It’s tough being on the Hype Wagon with the rest of the US when I put Billie Eilish at the top of the list. Some mainstream stuff is good, man. I’ll keep saying it, too. Her stuff is good for two reasons that make anything great in the music industry: She’s got a unique and identifiable sound, and the production/songwriting is so good. I’m not a millennial-not even close, but she’s sort of the voice of that generation. I’m surprised how grown-up it sounds from a -what- 17 year old? Amazing.

Another great record from most instrumentalists Floating Points. Floating Points, in general, is geek music. But it’s really terrific, and makes great background music AND front up listening music, if you’re into either.

On the jazz front, Tierney Sutton, Branford Marsalis and finally got one of my all-time favorite guitarists up there in David Torn. David Torn’s Polytown was my jam for yeeeeaarrrrssss. Highly influential, crazy record, still relevant and very listenable “jazz,” I guess. I call it experimental, but then everyone doesn’t want to hear it. But it’s good.

On classical front, if you like Beethoven Sonatas, this year provided with Igor Malone.

Will probably take some pain for Post Malone and Ariana Grande, but both excellently produced records and the “sound of the youth of our times” or some other bullshit. But, really? It’s pretty good. Stop being so damn snobbbbbby.

Check out the Maren Morris record. She’s the country gal that doesn’t sound country. You’ll dig it, I promise. And, well, yeah. Lizzo with her Missy Elliott-backed record. Was sort of hard to go wrong there.

Let me know what you think, if you’re into it, or got another record think should have made the list.
