State Of Decay 3 : RE:Score // RE: Sound Demonstration

I’ve never played the State of Decay series of games, but they seem like they are probably a lot of fun. The games are in the survival-horror genre, and gameplay includes several types of challenges such as management of survival resources, trust and group morale of other players in the game, base defense and defending oneself against zombies.

The game is developed by Undead Labs and Microsoft Studios. The original score was composed by Jesper Kyd.

When approaching the music for the rescore, I wanted to add some anxiety and intensity using simple and solo string instrumentation. Using solo strings adds to the solitary nature of the game, and helps build up the loneliness factor of the gameplay. In general, I think simple scores are more effective that grandiose orchestral arrangements, as it allows the composer to say more with less. The end result is often helping to tell the story without distracting from it.
